The Challenge

A London-based charity supporting entrepreneurship had a decade-long legacy of supporting over 7,000 founders - but their corporate funders were pressing them to reach out further afield and to under-represented populations. At the same time the charity wanted to diversify their funding streams and explore opportunities beyond corporate sponsorship.

What We Did

We collaborated with the charity's CEO and senior management team to create 2 major strategic frameworks:

  • Regional Expansion Framework: A roadmap for the organisation’s geographical diversification, focusing on critical drivers like demand for services, funding opportunities, and strategic partnership potential. The framework highlighted an approach to offering comprehensive support across entrepreneurial stages, leveraging its strong foundation in fostering start-up ecosystems to create impactful, sustainable expansions into new regions.

  • Bid Management and Tendering Practice: Developed to refine their business development function for public tenders, this guide includes creating tender evaluation criteria, establishing a tender library, and formulating strategies for localisation, team involvement, and partnership evaluation.

Outcome

The charity now has a structured methodology to navigate and seize tender opportunities with greater efficacy and alignment to its mission, and is actively evaluating opportunities outside London. We continue to be engaged as strategic partners to support them along this journey.
